LAHORE: Provincial Schools Education Minister Murad Raas on Thursday said the government has decided to take different measures to save the younger generation from the menace of narcotics and in this regard, a special campaign would be launched in educational institutions whereas an anti-narcotics committee has also been constituted.
Presiding over a meeting of private school owners at the PCTB office, Murad said that students should be given necessary awareness and their parents should also be kept on board for the proper upbringing of their children.
“The teachers should sensitise their students as well,” he said, adding that the role of school councils was also important and they should conduct awareness sessions in the schools regarding the harmful effects of narcotics.
The minister said that Schools Education Department (SED) would continue regular monitoring of educational institutions to keep providing a healthy environment for the students.
Different proposals about saving the educational institutions from narcotics were also discussed during the meeting and it was decided that a special awareness campaign will be launched.
The meeting also decided that SED should prepare necessary videos and booklets to raise awareness among students.
Earlier, the minister asked the private school owners to help the government so that a narcotics free society can be established.
He said that sale of betel nuts, cigarettes and other harmful things should not be allowed in immediate peripheries of educational institutions so as to save children.
“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is working to establish a healthy society and we should work jointly to achieve this objective. The private school owners should, therefore, take necessary measures to provide students with a neat, clean and healthy atmosphere,” the minister concluded.
Senior officials of SED were also present on the occasion.
