There wasn’t any new music. In fact, the closest thing to ‘new music’ that ‘junoon’ has produced in recent times were Salman Ahmed’s ravenous attack on the band’s classic track ‘Sayonee’ in the 9th season of coke studio. But even though there wasn’t an album that had people lining up, just seeing the band back together after almost 15 years was something many had given up on.

It was a single day concert in Karachi, it was a mammoth marketing stunt by a biscuit company and the ticket cost Rs 5000. So it wasn’t exactly a wholesome, rock experience for the masses, but it was something. The interviews that the band members gave were clearly scripted and uncomfortable at times – there is still too much bad blood. But when they played on the day, voices hoarse from lack of practice and stage energy low because of age, it still seemed a blast from the past. There wasn’t any new music, and there won’t  be either, but for a split moment in 2018, there was Junoon.
