LAHORE: Motorway has been closed for traffic from Lahore to Kot Momen and onwards from Khanewal to Multan due to dense fog, Motorway police spokesman Syed Imran Ahmad said on Monday.
“Parts of motorway passing through Swabi and Charsadda as well as Pindi Bhattian and Gojra are covered in thick fog thus closed. National Highway leading to Mian Channu from Lahore is closed as well,” he added.
The public has been asked to avoid unnecessary travelling while the drivers have been directed to use fog lights during intense weather conditions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says that “rain is expected on Tuesday” which will reduce the intensity of fog. It says the dry weather is likely to be reduced.
The temperature in Lahore has dropped to five degrees centigrade.
PMD had earlier forecasted rain in Quetta, Zhob, Kohat, Malakand, Hazara division, Peshawar, Lahore, Rawalpindi division and Islamabad.
It also said that snow is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and other mountainous regions.
PMD, however, said that the rain will not reduce the intensely cold weather and that “it will remain cold in the country for a little while longer”. The fog will also remain but the rain will reduce its intensity.
The Punjab police has also issued directions for the public to use fog lights. A helpline number is issued as well in case of any emergency situations.
