HYDERABAD: A juvenile boy died in Hyderabad after eating poisonous potato chips from a vendor on Sunday evening, local authorities said.
The authorities further added that action has been initiated against restaurants who sell unhygienic food items and “four such restaurants have been sealed and their managers have been arrested”.
According to police, twin siblings – four years old Humayyun and his sister Aliza – ate French fries from a local food-seller after which their condition worsened. Both the kids were rushed to a nearby hospital where the boy immediately died and the girl is reported to be in a critical condition.
Kids’ father alleged negligence on part of the hospital staff who, according to him, did not wash his son’s stomach. The doctors, on the other hands, rejected those allegations and asserted that the children had fallen sick after eating “something toxic”.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam directed the deputy inspector general (DIG) and Hyderabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) to probe into the unfortunate incident.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has also taken notice of the incident and sought a report from commissioner Hyderabad division. He also directed the Sindh Food Authority (SDA) to launch an investigation into the matter and check for the quality of food being served in the city.
