FBR seizes Jalal Sons’ records over sales tax fraud suspicion

LAHORE: As part of its action against large retail corporations allegedly involved in sales tax fraud, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday seized the financial records of Jalal Sons.

According to the details, a team of the revenue watchdog on Monday raided the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V branch of Jalal Sons and confiscated all of its computers as well as billing machines.

The team was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Syed Nasir Jamal Shah.

FBR had been monitoring Jalal Sons’ sales for the past three days and deployed 10 teams at different branches of the retail outlet.

“In accordance with its sales, around Rs10 million is to be paid [by Jalal Sons] as tax every month,” an FBR official said and added that the management, however, was only paying an amount of Rs400,000 while tampering the retail chain’s sales records.

He further said that scrutiny of the records as well as assets of Jalal Sons’ owners is underway.

It merits a mention here that in its latest measure to tighten the noose around tax evaders, the FBR has established a special departmental to probe as many as 20 biggest tax evaders.

The department will begin probe for tax recovery from January 1, 2019. The FBR has been directed to ensure tax recovery within a month.
