Fawad committing contempt of court by mentioning JIT report: PPP

ISLAMABAD: Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, the spokesman to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has said that Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has openly violated the instructions of Supreme Court which clearly prohibit anyone from talking about the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, accusing him of the contempt of court.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Senator Khokhar questioned on what basis the federal government was demanding the resignation of Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah.

He said that the info minister should ask his own PTI government to render resignations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Punjab Senior Minister Aleem Khan before he asks CM Sindh to do so.

The PPP chief’s spokesman said that the JIT report was only an excuse to target the Sindh government. The puppet politicians are not able to accept the real mandate of the people, Senator Khokhar concluded.

‘PARLIAMENT’S INTEGRITY COMPROMISED’:

PPP Information Secretary and MNA Dr Nafisa Shah, while responding to Fawad’s press conference, said that the integrity of the parliament is being compromised.

In a statement here on Monday, she said Fawad’s accusations of corruption against others is just like the “kettle calling pot black”.

She said the ‘PM-select’ Imran Khan is having trouble gaining trust from within his own party due to his failure in fulfilling his promises. Instead of scheming and plotting against Sindh government the federal government should fix its own flaws, she added.

She said that Fawad’s tales of corruption have been exposed by a member of his own party in a book. “The book talks of how the information minister is a corrupt man and used his uncle’s status as a judge to loot and plunder,” he added.

The PPP lawmaker called it ironic for Fawad to talk about corruption when he is himself accused of such practices.
