Aliya Zaidi faces backlash over ‘copycat’ Ambani-themed party

KARACHI: A former supermodel Aliya Zaidi threw an “Ambani-themed” party in Karachi which was attended by the bigwigs of the cinema industry including former actress Freiha Altaf. As glitzy and ritzy as it may seem, it received much backlash on social media for being a ‘copycat’ of the original big-fat Ambani wedding which spanned well over a week and was declared as world’s second most expensive wedding.

The Ambani wedding, which remained the heart of conversations for many days, was followed in Pakistan as well when Aliya Zaidi threw a part for her friends last week.

According to The Print, Zaidi had the theme because “it was the pulse – the Ambani wedding was all everyone was talking about. There is an affinity for culture, tradition, fashion and music. Much like the Ambani wedding, Pakistani weddings also go on for days. For Pakistanis, the wedding was an ideal time to catch a glimpse of their favourite Bollywood stars.”

However, it received much criticism from the Karachiites, who, apparently, have ‘had enough’ of the K Jo styled huge traditional Indian weddings.

People took it to Twitter to express their anger.

Sahar Tariq said that the “only thing more ridiculous than the Ambani wedding is an Ambani wedding themed party! #Gross

Indian journalist Shekhar Gupta also took to Twitter: “Because no upper crust can be nuttier than Pakistan’s… Journalist @YusraSAskari Brinda this brilliant story on an Ambani-themed party and says it was crazy”

Journalist Mahwash Ajaz said, “as if a big fat Ambani wedding wasn’t terrible enough, Pakistanis threw an Ambani themed wedding. South Asians and their obsession with weddings is going to become the end of us.”

Celebrities and other attendants of the party also posted their pictures on social media.
