Motorway Police officer dies while saving lives

MULTAN: Motorway Police (Central Zone) Patrol Officer Muhammad Saeed on Sunday embraced martyrdom while saving the life of road users.

As per details, the patrol officer was securing a scene of an accident after the collision of vehicles due to dense fog in the area of Basti Maluk of Multan sector, said a press release.

While the officer was placing reflecting cones and amber light at the accident site, a bus hit him from the rear resulting in severe injuries. The officer was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.

Multan Central II Commander Atif Shahzad also reached the hospital to ensure the provision of best treatment but the officer could not survive the injuries and embraced martyrdom. Martyred Muhammad Saeed was a resident of Bhakkar district.

The martyred officer left a one-year-old daughter and widow. The body of the martyred officer was sent to his native town.

On this occasion, Central Zone DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik said that the martyred Patrol Officer Muhammad Saeed was a professional, honest and brave police officer, promising that they will do their utmost to look after his bereaved family.

DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik further said that the department never forgets the service of officers who embrace martyrdom in the line of duty and it has been a top priority to look after educational, financial and other issues regarding their families.

At least nine members of a family, including three children and four women, were killed in a head-on collision between a car and truck on the Indus Highway in Rojhan.

According to the details, rescue officials rushed to the scene after being informed and shifted the bodies and the injured to nearby hospital. The officials said that the ill-fated family belonged to Sindh, a private news channel reported.

However, the truck driver was shifted to the hospital in critical condition. Police said that the reason behind the accident was over speeding. The police officers seized the truck and launched an investigation.

In a separate accident, at least two people died and 30 others injured, some critical in collision between two over speeding vehicles here on Sunday, police said.

The accident took place near Jala Arain at Multan-Bahawalpur Road where an over speeding passenger bus and van collided with each other.

Two people died on the spot in the accident while 30 others were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Lodhran where the condition of some wounded people was stated to be serious.

The police impounded both vehicles and after registering a case into the incident have started an investigation.

WEATHER:

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most part of the country. Rain/thunderstorm with snow over hills is expected at few places in Quetta and Zhob divisions. Foggy conditions are likely to continue in plans of Punjab with rain forecast on Tuesday.

According to the motorway police, citizens should use fog lights, and avoid travelling without purpose.
