KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the divisional administration and police to keep the Sea View beach area open for public on New Year’s night so that the visitors could enjoy, however, strict action must be taken against those carrying weapons, using narcotics and harassing visitors.
The directives were issued by the CM on Sunday evening while presiding over a meeting to review security arrangements made for New Year’s night here at the CM House. The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Kazi Kabir, Principal Secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shahalwani, Additional IG Special Branch Dr Waliullah Dal, DIGs of South, East, West and SSP South.
The chief minister was told that roads leading to Sea View were being closed through a container and strict checking would be carried on the all the roads and streets.
At this, the chief minister said that the people of this city have every right to enjoy New Year’s night but in a decent and cultured way.
He directed the Karachi commissioner and DIG South not to close the road and let the people go to the beach if they want to. “I would suggest you make strict security arrangements so that nobody could carry a weapon, use narcotics, resort to one wheeling or ride a bike without a silencer,” he said.
He also issued directives for the arrest of persons carrying weapons, drinking alcohol and creating problems for others. “This is our city. We all have to make it peaceful and demonstrate with our actions that we are educated and cultured people,” he said.
Shah also directed the administration to designate alternate routes towards Sea View just to avoid the unnecessary traffic jam at Dou-Talwar and Teen-Talwar.
He also told the Karachi commissioner and the police that with the designation of alternate routes towards Sea View should be made in such a way that the people living in Clifton and Sea View areas are not inconvenienced.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that a few street lights in DHA and Clifton were out of order. The chief minister directed the Karachi commissioner to talk to DHA authorities in order to fix the lights as soon as possible, adding that KMC and other concerned authorities should also follow suit.
Further, the city’s commissioner was also ordered to conduct an inspection of CCTV cameras in DHA and Clifton, and make sure that out of order cameras are repaired.
The traffic police were also directed to envisage an efficient traffic management plan.
The CM said that he would be reviewing the overall law and order situation in the city every Monday.
