GUJRAT: Five men on Friday fired shots at a police van, stopped it and got freed their accomplice from custody at gunpoint; only to kill him later.
According to police, the incident took place in the Vince Mor area of Gujrat, where Rehmania Police was returning to the lockup after securing the remand of an accused, namely Abbas.
“Five men in a white-coloured car intercepted the police van and freed their accomplice on gunpoint,” police said and added that later, Abbas was found critically injured near Sahiwal.
The police rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to the bullet wounds.
A search operation to arrest the suspects is underway.
