Four killed, 35 injured in Okara chain accident

–Fourteen die, 982 sustain injuries in road accidents within past 24 hours

OKARA: At least four people were killed and 35 others injured in a chain accident here Friday.

As per the details, some eight cars collided with each other on the Okara bypass amid dense fog in the area during wee hours.

All casualties were shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.

It merits a mention here that dense fog hit Okara region hard, making life difficult for the people. The cold has also affected social life in the area.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the accident in Okara surged the death toll due to road accidents in the province to 14, while a total of 982 persons sustained injuries during the past 24 hours as well.

Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 844 road crashes, shifted 588 seriously injured to different hospitals and provided first aid to 359 with minor injuries.

Further analysis showed that 388 drivers, 29 underage drivers, 118 pedestrians and 451 passengers were among the victims of these road accidents.

The statistics show that 209 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 207 persons placing the provincial capital on top of the list, followed by 69 in Faisalabad with 76 victims and Multan at third with 69 accidents and 73 victims.

According to the data, 657 motorbikes, 118 auto-rickshaws, 89 cars, 44 vans, 15 passenger buses, 26 trucks and 102 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the accidents.
