Gen Bajwa approves death for 22 hardcore terrorists

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed the death sentence awarded to 22 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in various acts of terrorism throughout the country.

These terrorists were involved in attacking armed forces and law enforcement agencies of the country, exploding of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device to carry out sectarian killings, destruction of communication infrastructure, police check posts, educational institutions and killing of innocent civilians, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

On the whole, their terrorist activities resulted in the deaths of 176 people, including 19 armed forces personnel, 41 police and levies officials and 116 civilians, whereas, injuring 217 others. Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts. 15 convicts were awarded different jail terms, whereas two convicts tried by the special military court were found not guilty and have been acquitted accordingly.

The convicted people include Khairuddin, Muhammad Ishaq, Inamullah, Alam Sher, Irfan, Muhammad Shafique, Sultan Mehmood, Muhammad Tahir, Zafar Ali, Umar Karim, Muhammad Sher Wali Khan, Rahmat Shah, Bakhtawar, Rasheed Ullah, Faheemud Din, Zahir Shah, Said Muhammad, Arab Jan, Muhammad Ishaq, Tanhaj Ali, Abdul Rafee and Muhammad Ishaq.
