Adjournment motions on Peshawar BRT approved for debate

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Friday approved two adjournment motions for a detailed discussion on Peshawar Bus Rapid Project (BRT) in the next session.

MPAs Khushdil Khan of ANP and Rehana Ismail of MMA moved two separate adjournment motions and criticised BRT project, terming it a headache for the residents of the metropolis.

ANP’s Khushdil Khan said that escalation of cost from Rs49 to Rs75 billion and several extensions in the completion of the project was a matter of grave concern, adding that initially the six-month project could not be completed after a year.

Referring to news clipping, he said the iron fencing of BRT route has reportedly been stolen. The poor planning and undue delay in the muti-billion project needs thorough discussion.

MMA’s Rehana Ismail in her adjournment motion maintained that until now neither the side roads alongside BRT track have been opened nor the public transport stopped from plying.

She said that traffic mess has become a permanent feature of Peshawar city and according to news reports as many as 7 million vehicles ply daily in one route city.

She said the house should discuss the matter and the chief minister should take the house into confidence about the solution to the increasing traffic disorder in the city.

KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani accepted both the adjournment motions for discussion in next assembly session.
