KARACHI: A special police team was constituted on Thursday to investigate the murder of the former member of National Assembly (MNA) Ali Raza Abidi.
Abidi, who was the former lawmaker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), was killed in a shooting outside his home in Khayaban-e-Ghazi area of Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) locality on Tuesday in what police officials claim to be a targeted killing incident.
The team, which will be headed by District South Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Pir Muhammad Shah, includes South Zone SP Investigation Tariq Razzaq Dharejo, Clifton Acting SP Suhai Aziz, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mukhtiar Ahmed Khaskheli, Clifton Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Investigation Raja Azhar Mehmood, Station House Officer (SHO) Gizri Asadullah Mangi, and Gizri Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) Chaudhry Amanat Ali.
The investigation team will submit daily reports and ensure that efforts are made to arrest the involved assailants, a notification signed by South DIG Police Javed Odho read.
On Wednesday, a forensic analysis was performed on the car in which the late lawmaker was traveling. It was reported that the car was dented by bullets in five places.
Three bullets hit the car’s door reportedly while one hit the roof and the fifth passed through to hit the door on the other side.
However, no fingerprints apart from Abidi’s could be found inside the car.
