PIA aircraft collides with passenger staircase before departing at Islamabad airport

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft on Thursday collided with a passenger staircase while departing for Karachi from Islamabad.

It was reported that PIA’s Flight PK-373 was set to depart for Karachi when the aircraft collided with the passenger staircase damaging the wing of the aircraft.

According to PIA officials, “The wing of the aircraft is being currently repaired and the flight will now depart for Karachi at 1:30 pm.”

“Passengers have been shifted back to the passenger lounge,” the officials added.

In a another incident on October 9, a passenger boarding bridge collapsed at the Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday, injuring a man. No damage was caused to an aircraft belonging to a foreign airliner that was parked at the site.

In yet another incident on February 27, five people were injured when the stairway of a passenger plane at Benazir Bhutto International Airport collapsed on Tuesday. According to airport officials the plane, belonging to Emirates airline, was departing for Dubai when the incident took place.

In November, a PIA aircraft skidded off the runway at the Panjgur airport when the tyre of the plane burst during landing. Everybody onboard remained unhurt.

In March 2013, a PIA aircraft made an emergency landing in Quetta when the tyres of the plane burst. All passengers on board remained unharmed.
