ISLAMABAD: Panamagate joint investigation team (JIT) head Wajid Zia on Monday took charge as the inspector general of Railways Police.

Zia, a Grade-21 officer who belongs to the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) cadre, was earlier serving as additional director general (immigration) at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) when he was appointed as the head of a six-member JIT, formed by the Supreme Court (SC) to probe into the Panamagate – a scandal which had jolted the political landscape in Pakistan and elsewhere in the world.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Shariq Jamal Khan briefed Zia about the department’s operations upon his arrival.

The Panama JIT-fame bureaucrat said that he will try his best to improve the performance of Railways Police.
