26 February: Papua New Guinea earthquake

May: Heatwave in Karachi, Pakistan kills at least 65

June: Guatemala volcanic eruption

 

The Fuego volcano eruption in Guatemala resulted in the deaths of approximately 425 people. A major reason for the deaths was that the fierce eruption left little time for people in the area to be evacuated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

July: Greece Wildfires

August: Indonesia earthquake

September: Indonesia earthquake and tsunami

 

A 20-foot high tsunami hit Indonesia after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in September this year. More than 2,700 people perished in the earthquake and the tsunami with severe damage to infrastructure as well. November: California (US) wildfires

December: Indonesia tsunami
