LAHORE: As many as 13 district council chairpersons have announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) here in Lahore.
They all met Prime Minister Imran Khan led by Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan who earlier met them in his political office on Saturday.
These chairmen include Pir Ghulam Mohiuddin Chishti from Vehari, Syed Qilandar Hasnain Shah from Bahawalnagar, Engr Raza Sargana from Khanewal, Umer Khan Gopang from Muzaffargarh, Malik Ali Qadir from Okara, Mian Aslam Sukhera from Pakpattan, Ameer Haider Khan Sangha from Khushab and Emaan Tahir from Attock.
The chairpersons called on Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem jointly and exchanged views in detail. According to the details, they were considering to join the ruling party for the last two months and different meetings took place in this regard for discussion took.
In this meeting, they expressed their views about the new local body system in Punjab and agreed upon unconditionally joining hands with the PTI. It is pertinent to mention that most of these chairmen belong to the PML-N and it is being perceived as a major setback for that previous ruling party.
On this occasion, Aleem said the new system administrative and financial powers would be delegated to the elected representatives and special steps would be taken to empower village councils which will cover 80 per cent rural population of Punjab.
He welcomed the chairpersons and expressed hope that it will be a good omen to resolve the problems at the local level.
Later, Aleem led these chairpersons held a special meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan at Lahore airport where they were greeted by him and given party flags. He also expressed hope that their decision will further strengthen the party and local body’s institutions in Punjab.
