KARACHI: Overflowing gutters in front of the Lyari General Hospital (LGH) has been causing grave inconveniences to the visitors as well as medical staff since a week.

The choked sewerage line at main entrance gate of the hospital has added further miseries to the patients and medical staff as the sanitation staff is not properly maintaining the overflowing gutters.  The road leading to the hospital has also damaged at several sections due to presence of stagnant sewerage water and there is urgent need to repair it and replace broken sewerage lines to reduce miseries of the patients.

A visit to the hospital tells volumes about the lack of seriousness of civic authorities towards encroachment and sanitary conditions of this tertiary medical care center that caters to the needs of Lyari and its adjoining areas, but unfortunately, authorities concerned are not paying head towards this issue.

The administrative officer at Lyari General Hospital told PPI that around 2500 patients visit the hospital for treatment every day, but overflowing gutters had created a nuisance to patients and medical staff. The overflowing gutters at main gate of the hospital have become serious nuisance that are creating hurdles in shifting the patients throughout ambulances. The doctors, paramedical staff and staff nurses are also facing great hardship due to stagnant sewerage water.

Medical Superintendent, Lyari General Hospital, Dr Anwer Palari, while talking to PPI, said that the choked sewerage line was causing immense problem to the visiting patients and medical staff. He informed that replacement of old sewerage lines was the responsibility of Karachi Municipal Authority and complaint had been lodged to authorities concerned.
