Govt to provide security to all parliamentarians: minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan has assured the opposition that the government will fulfill its responsibility by providing security to all parliamentarians.

Addressing the issue of the removal of security at the residence of lawmaker Maulana Asadur Rehman, he said that the issue had been brought in the notice of Interior Minister Shehryar Afridi.

Earlier, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif had also pointed out during his address that the government removed the security deployed at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence, though his son Maulana Asadur Rehman was also living with him. As he is a member of the National Assembly, he cannot be deprived of this security, he said.

The removal of fencing at the green belt in front of the houses in the area also came under intense discussion as Housing Minister Tariq Cheema said: “We are removing the fencing in front of all the houses, including the houses of ministers.” However, Maulana Abdul Wase responded that the security cabin in front of the Fazlur Rehman’s house has been removed without serving any prior notice.

He declared it a “discriminatory action” and said it was an act of vengeance as all the other houses in the area remain untouched except that of Maulana.
