LAHORE: An accountability court (AC) on Friday extended the physical remand of three accused for another 15 days in the Rs60 million corruption case of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the accused, including Shaukat Hussain, Ejaz Ahmad and Naveed Murad, before AC Judge Syed Najamul Hassan on the expiry of their remand term.

The officials submitted that investigations were in progress and sought an extension in the accused persons’ physical remand.

At this, the court extended the remand for another 15 days and directed to produce them again on January 5.

The court also extended judicial remand of Hassan, Tariq and Ismail for another 15 days.

NHA Director Shaukat Hussain and five others were arrested by NAB on charges of corruption.

The accused allegedly transferred hefty amounts to bogus accounts on pretext of acquiring land for the Bahawalpur to Rahim Yar Khan extension project in 2006 and 2007. NAB had started probing the corruption on an application filed by NHA chairman in 2017.
