Zaid Ali T’s wife opens up about being body shamed in Pakistan

Pakistani-Canadian comedian Zaid Ali T and wife Yumna who are currently in Pakistan have kept their fans updated about their whereabouts via social media.

It is no news that Yumna has been subjected to online trolling ever since the couple got hitched over her skin colour. Having said that, Zaid took to his social media to address the issue, however, Yumna never spoke about it until recently.

Taking to Instagram, Yumna opened up about body shaming in a thought-provoking post. She shared an old picture of herself with a recent one and wrote, “When I was five, my family immigrated to Canada. This is a picture of me at the age of 10. Growing up, I was never made to feel ‘fat or ‘dark’ because my family and the people around me never made me feel that way. The culture in Canada is such that you are not judged based on your appearance, skin colour, or cast but how you act.”

She said that she was first body shamed when she visited Pakistan in 1999. “I was hit with rude remarks and cunning looks because of the way I looked. I was called ugly, fat, left and right. Some people thought I would never get married. Everyone felt the need to give me unsolicited advice wherever I went. And I was genuinely confused. I would think, ‘Why do these people care about my looks?’ I look great and if I actually am fat, how come no one ever told me before?”

Soon after the post, Zaid took to Twitter to laud her and wrote, “I am so proud of my wife, Yumnah. She’s always been confident about who she is and despite the negativity she received, she always had a positive attitude.”
