Police foils encroachment bid over plot of religious scholar

KARACHI: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Irfan Bahadur on Thursday informed that Sachal Police late Wednesday night arrested 17 accused including 4 women and the foiled bid of encroachment over a plot of religious scholar Hakeem Maulana Muhammad Akbar Dars.

Talking to APP, he said it was the second attempt of the accused to encroach the land of the scholar. During the first attempt made by the same group on December 5 this year, 7 accused were arrested from the spot while main accused Nazir Solangi managed to escape from the scene.

SSP said that the case against the arrested accused was registered at Sachal PS on the complaint of a tenant of Maulana Akbar Dars on December 5. On the same day, another tenant of Maulana Dars approached the police station and filed a complaint against the same accused stating that the accused had stolen things worth millions.

Main accused Nazir Solangi is a ghost primary school teacher in the Education Department. Irfan Bahadur said that to influence the owner of the plot, the complainants and Station House Officer (SHO) Sachal, PS Farukh Shahryar and the accused had filed a criminal petition in District and Session Court which was rejected by the court on December 17.

On December 19, main accused Nazir Solangi along with his other women accomplices attempted to encroach the said plot however the police acted promptly and arrested 17 accused including Nazir Solangi, his son. Rameez Solangi 4 women and others. Police also recovered arms, iron rods and the things stolen on December 5, the SSP informed.

He said that 3 separate cases against the arrested accused have been registered.
