ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) remarked on Wednesday that it is not written anywhere that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) cannot be constituted again.

A three-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Azmat Saeed took up for hearing Parveen Rehman murder case Wednesday.

During the hearing of the case, Justice Azmat Saeed remarked, “Murder of a woman who has done good work is bad. It is not written anywhere that JIT cannot be constituted again. Punjab government itself has formed JIT again in Model Town case.”

Petitioner and lawyer Raheel Karman told the court that he is satisfied with the security provided by the police. “I have filed an application with the government seeking the formation of new JIT. No decision has been taken so far in this respect,” he argued.

Additional Attorney General Tariq Khokhar told the court that the application was given to the interior minister on November 8 in connection with the constitution of a new JIT. Interior ministry has solicited opinion from FIA on this count, he added.

He accepted that the matter has been hushed up and evidence was destroyed.

He assured the court that the government will soon take a decision about the reconstitution of the JIT.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till January.
