LAHORE: Two days after he parted ways with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), former MPA and Lahore Deputy Mayor Chaudhry Waseem Qadir has announced joining the rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Qadir on Tuesday had quitted PML-N after claiming that Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz disrespected him. “I have taken the decision in reaction to Hamza’s attitude as I cannot bear disrespect. Hamza does not treat the workers and staff well and also slapped a party worker, Mian Jamil,” Qadir had said in a statement.
He had also hinted at joining some other political party soon.
On Thursday, expressing confidence over the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Qadir said that he was with them in the journey of national development and would be standing with them in the future as well.
“I have complete confidence in the PTI leadership,” he said in a meeting with CM Buzdar at the latter’s office.
The chief minister, on the occasion, welcomed Qadir and said that PTI had emerged as the most popular party due to the public-friendly policies of PM Khan.
“Your participation will further strengthen the party in Lahore,” he said, adding that the government belonged to the people.
“We are striving to solve the problems being faced by the masses and are serving them as a team.”
Buzdar said it was sanguine that Qadir had joined his team in the journey of public service.
