LMC employees hold protest on non-payment of eight-month salaries

LARKANA: A total of 55 employees of Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) held a protest against the non-payment of eight-month salaries here on Wednesday.

They demonstrated when Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro arrived to preside over a general body meeting of PPP Larkana at Begum Nusrat Bhutto Multipurpose Hall.

“We demanded the fulfilment of his promise. On seeing this, Larkana Mayor Aslam Shaikh called some of us and held talks but he categorically refused to disburse our salaries,” the employees told newsmen.

When Khuhro came out, they again held a protest and did not allow his vehicle to move. They chanted slogans against the mayor. One of the employees fell down in front of his vehicle but Khuhro ignored it and stayed in his car.

PPP leaders Fatah Bhutto, Khair Muhammad Shaikh, Noordin Abro and others reached the spot and told the agitating employees to disperse as their issue would be resolved. However, the LMC employees refused to believe them saying they were tired of empty promises.

Employees Jabbar Chandio, Imran Bughio, Zulfiqar Hulio, Irfan Samo and others said that they had not been paid their monthly salaries since the last eight months and the Larkana mayor had been putting them on false promises due to which they were sure that he was not a reliable man.

They said that the mayor’s job was to resolve issues confronted by the employees but he had proved to be non-serious. Later, they dispersed after the assurance of local party leaders that they will get the payments soon.
