HYDERABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that when he referred to “fixed tenure of only three years” while addressing the party rally on Saturday, he was talking about how long it takes to wake up his own democratic sentiments.

“Yes, that is what I was referring to – obviously,” Zardari said in an exclusive interview with The Dependent. “The three year tenure is how long it takes me to start worrying about democracy,” he added.

Zardari further reminded everyone that the last time he made a similar speech and referenced a three year duration was in 2015 – three years ago.

“I talked about a time period of three years in two different addresses after a gap of three years. And yet, there are those who want to twist the meaning of what I said and make it sound like something hard-hitting and revolutionary,” the PPP cochairman clarified.

“This just goes to show how many enemies the Peoples’ Party has and how many conspiracies are ongoing to make it sound completely different to what it actually is like.”

Zardari reaffirmed that he indeed is concerned about the state of democracy in the country.

“And whenever I’m worried I take a hard vacation in Dubai, as a distraction,” he added
