Major terrorist attacks that shook Pakistan in 2018

Here are some of the major terrorist incidents that occurred in Pakistan this year:

 February 3 attack on army personnel:

As many as 11 security personnel, including an officer, were martyred in Swat’s Kabal area on February 3 when a suicide attacker targeted an Army unit. The attack on the Army unit also injured 13 other security personnel. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

 July 11 attack on ANP leader Haroon Bilour:

At least 15 people, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Barrister Haroon Bilour, embraced martyrdom after a suicide bomber targeted a party rally in the Yakatoot area of Peshawar on July 11, CCPO Qazi Jamilur Rehman confirmed.

As many as 66 people were injured in the incident and all casualties, including the ANP leader, were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

 July 14 Mastung Bombing:

Balochistan witnessed a bloodbath when a suicide bomber, carrying at least 15kg of explosives, struck a Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) election rally in Mastung, martyring PB-35 candidate Siraj Raisani and 128 others.

The ultra-violent Islamic State (IS) or Daish terror outfit claimed responsibility for the deadly attack in a short statement.

July 25 Quetta suicide bombing outside polling station:

 

At least 31 people, including a policeman and two children, embraced martyrdom while several were injured in a suicide bombing targeting Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzak Cheema’s convoy near a polling station in Quetta on July 25. The attack claimed by the Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh, that injured 35 people in total.

September 22 North Waziristan clash:

 

Seven troops, including an army officer, embraced martyrdom and nine terrorists were killed in a clash during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan on September 22.

The clash took place in Gharlamai and Spera Kunar Algad in North Waziristan after a group of terrorists was reported to be hiding in a compound after infiltrating from across the border.

November 23 attack on Chinese consulate:

 

Four were killed when Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) terrorists attacked the Chinese Consulate in Karachi on November 23. The attackers first opened fire at a security checkpost, then detonated a hand grenade in the area.

After killing the police guards, the terrorists managed to breach the main gate and entered the building. Shortly after, the Rangers arrived in the area and an hour-long exchange of fire took place between security forces and the attackers, leaving all the three assailants dead.

Two civilians — Zahir Shah and his son Abdul Karim — were also killed in the attack. The father-son duo had come to the consulate from Quetta to collect their visas.

November 23 Hangu blast:

 

At least 33 people were killed and dozens injured when a bomb hidden in a carton of vegetables ripped through a crowded marketplace in Pakistan’s restive northwestern tribal region on November 23.

Survivors told media persons that the powerful explosion shook the entire bazaar and the bang was heard within a radius of several kilometres. According to Bomb Disposal Squad, the IED weighed around 20 kilos.
