LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said on Friday that good governance with strong institutions as well as accountability, positively impacted the masses, especially the poor.
Addressing the award ceremony of the 109th National Management Course and 24th Senior Management Course at the National School of Public Policy, the governor said it was important to improve governance and build institutions for poverty reduction as well as the development of the country.
“The state is responsible to provide the people with a conducive political, legal and economic environment to assist them in building individual capabilities; creating socio-economic opportunities and encouraging private initiatives,” he said and added that all this was possible only through the help of civil servants.
“We should always ensure that interests of the people are at the heart of every public policy and their welfare should be our goal,” he added.
The country needs dedication and commitment of the civil servants at the federal and provincial levels, he said, adding that it is imperative that service delivery to the people is improved.
The governor said civil servants must rise to meet the challenges. “The government has provided the direction and policy framework and civil servants should execute and deliver better services to the people of Pakistan,” he concluded.
