– Letter will reassure US of Pak’s cooperation in Afghar war settlement
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is reportedly going to respond to US President Donald Trump’s letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to reports, the prime minister has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to prepare a reply to the letter.
The letter will convey an affirmative response to the US that had sought Pakistan’s assistance and facilitation in achieving a negotiated settlement of the Afghan war. It will also reaffirm Islamabad’s resolve for bilateral economic cooperation with Washington.
On Monday, PM Imran during a meeting with TV anchors and reporters in Islamabad had informed that he has received a letter from the US president.
PM Imran had revealed that Trump has asked for Pakistan’s help in “bringing the Taliban leadership to the negotiating table”. He added that he had always believed only dialogue could bring stability in Afghanistan.
“President Trump has also acknowledged that the war had cost both USA and Pakistan,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had said in a statement. “He has emphasised that Pakistan and USA should explore opportunities to work together and renew partnership.”
The ministry had “welcomed” the US decision for negotiations, noting that “Pakistan has always advocated a political settlement to end the war in Afghanistan”.
