ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday claimed that Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia and investigation officer Kamran had tried to frame him in the Flagship reference.

“Apart from these two, no other witness recorded statements against me. Both officials tried to frame me even though they did not find any document that showed that my sons were dependent on me or that I am the owner of their assets,” he said while recording his statement in the Flagship Investments reference before Accountability Judge Arshad Malik.

The former premier claimed that the JIT also wrongfully named him the owner of his son Hassan Nawaz’s assets.

“Charge-sheet against me was politically motivated as no charges against me were proved but I will still submit the documents to the court,” he said, adding that references were drawn against him on the basis of the “one-sided” JIT report.

Upon being asked about the Flagship reference by the court, the former prime minister said that his children buy flats and sell them after refurbishing the properties. “They also sell companies under which the flats have been registered.”

The judge noticed that the matter would have been resolved if Hussain Nawaz recorded his statement in court since he had transferred the money to his brother, Hassan.

“Even if the Qataris had appeared before the court the matter could have been resolved,” the judge said.

The PML-N supremo recorded the replies of 136 questions, while he’s likely to submit the answers of the remaining four questions on Thursday.
