Dr Shakil Afridi’s petition hearing to review a tribal court’s decision was adjourned for one year with no progress as the Peshawar High Court (PHC) declared the tribunal where the petition was filed to be defunct, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.
Afridi had helped the US in tracking down former Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad in 2011.
He was previously sentenced to 33 years in prison on four separate charges by a tribal court.
The tribunal hearing the petition was declared defunct after the merger of the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Afridi’s lawyer also expressed concerns on the well-being of his client, claiming that he had been subjected to “continuous mental torture” by the jail superintendent.
