LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint Leicestershire CEO Waseem Khan as its managing director (MD), a local media house reported on Tuesday.

It is reported that the first session of the PCB governing body, since the arrival of a new chief, will be held on December 18 in Dubai. In his first session, Ehsan Mani will take PCB’s governing body in confidence over the matter of appointment of Waseem Khan as PCB MD.

Khan, who is a former cricketer, has played 58 first-class matches between 1992 and 2002.

Earlier, PCB chief Ehsan Mani, upon his appointment, hinted that the cricket governing body will be hiring a director media and managing director to help in administrative matters. PCB also advertised the posts through the newspapers.

On the other hand, former PCB chief Najam Sethi claimed that the recruitment process is a sham and that incumbent PCB chief had already “made his mind regarding the appointments”.

The post of director media went vacant after former Director Media Amjad Hussain Bhatti, who is also a friend of Najam Sethi and was on deputation period, returned to his mother department DGPR as its head shortly after the 2018 general elections. Whilst the post of the MD has just been introduced to promote the cricket culture in the country.

It is important to note that PCB is already under pressure for its unnecessarily increased number of employees.
