ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to allot election symbols to 30 political parties for by-elections as they did not submit their expense details.

The political parties against whom the ECP has taken this action include Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Justice and Democratic Party (JDP), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Majlis-e-Wadhatul Muslimeen (MWM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Gullalai (PTI-G), and Baluchistan National Party (BNP) among others.

According to the details issued by ECP, the competent authority has decided to not issue symbols to 30 political parties who participated in the General Elections of 2018 but did not submit their expenditure details to the commision.

Despite repeated notices, these political parties did not bother to submit the details that ECP had asked for.

It is obligatory for all political parties who participate in the elections to submitted details of their assets as well as details of the expenses incurred on elections campaigns.

The candidates of the defecting political parties would be able to contest the by-elections as independent candidates.
