The Centre for Professional Development of Public Prosecutors (CPD) in Lahore lacks security measures despite the fact that it serves as a training hub for prosecutors in high profile terrorism and criminal cases.
Security personnel was withdrawn from the office, which is part of the Punjab Public Prosecution Department several months ago. This has drawn ire as not only are joint training sessions conducted there, but foreign dignitaries from the British High Commission, US State Department of Justice and the German embassy are also frequent visitors at the centre.
Chaudhry Muhammad Jahangir, the director of CPD said that he has written two letters to the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO) in this regard. He also referred to the Section 21 (2) of the Anti-terrorism Act, 1997 that “emphasizes upon provision of protection to prosecutors dealing with terrorism cases” in a letter to the deputy commissioner.
His appeal is yet to be considered.
