People with disabilities to be given special status: info minister

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Fayyazul Hassan Chohan Monday said that differently-abled persons deserved special treatment in the society.

Speaking at the inauguration of a day-long family festival held at PILAC in connection with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, he said the government would introduce legislation to accord special status to the people with disabilities.

The minister also said that the hearts and minds of the special persons beat for the progress and prosperity of the country, adding that these people were blessed with extraordinary abilities.

He asked PILAC Director General Sughra Sadaf to hold such ceremonies for special persons after every three months, adding that their talents should be acknowledged all year long.

Chohan also expressed his resolve to provide equal opportunities for the people with disabilities in the Cultural Ministry.

Later, he met the differently-abled persons present on the occasion and shared special moments with them. He also listened to their demands and gave away mementoes to the philanthropists.

Veteran television actor Arshad Mehmood moderated the event.
