ISLAMABAD: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has sent terms of references (ToRs) to World Bank for approval to install new telemetry system at various points of Indus water.
After approval, expression of interest (EOI) would be sought from shortlisted firms for carrying out a feasibility study of the project, said IRSA spokesman Khalid Rana while talking to APP.
He said that initially, under the pilot project, telemetry system would be installed at seven points, including Chashma, Tunsa, Guddu Barrages, Head Marala, CRBC canal and Pat Feeder Canal etc.
Later, he said, it would be installed at 17 other points. The system would only help transmit online data simultaneously to all four provinces, the ministry of water resources, IRSA, WAPDA, etc. but also help unaccounted water flow, the spokesman said.
He said that the system would also help more transparency in water distribution.
Meanwhile, IRSA on Sunday released 86,000 cusecs water from various rim stations with an inflow of 47,800 cusecs.
According to the data released by IRSA, the water level in the Indus River at Tarbela Dam was 1,431.20 feet, which was 45.20 feet higher than its dead level of 1,386 feet. Water inflow in the dam was recorded as 25,200 cusecs and outflow as 45,000 cusecs.
The water level in the Jhelum River at Mangla Dam was 1,134.45 feet, which was 94.45 feet higher than its dead level of 1,040 feet whereas the inflow and outflow of water were recorded as 8,800 cusecs and 28,000 cusecs respectively.
The release of water at Kalabagh, Taunsa and Sukkur was recorded as 70,700 cusecs, 48,700 cusecs and 5,500 cusecs respectively.
Similarly, 4,200 cusecs each, water was released from the Kabul River at Nowshera and from the Chenab River at Marala.
