Pakistani, Russian navies hold joint drills in Arabian Sea


KARACHI: Pakistani and Russian navies on Saturday participated in a joint exercise in the northern Arabian Sea.

A spokesman of Pakistan Navy said that the two ships of the Russian Navy visited Karachi Port and participated in the joint Pak-Russian naval anti-piracy drills called Arabian Monsoon-2018.

Russian Northern Fleet’s Severomorsk Anti-Submarine Ship also participated in the active phase of the drills in the northern Arabian Sea with Pakistan Navy.

The Russian ships warmly welcomed while on the port call of Karachi, Pakistan Navy spokesman said.

Russian Navy officers called on the field commander of Pakistan Navy, the spokesman said. They also paid respects at the mausoleum of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam and laid floral wreath.

The drill with the Russian Navy was meant to improve the capability of joint operations, he added.

The relations between the two countries will create new opportunities for mutual cooperation, he further said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s Naval Chief had recently visited Russia.
