During a special screening of Avengers: Infinity War, the directors of the movie Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that God of Mischief, Loki Odinson, Prince of Asgard, is, in fact, dead.

This year’s Marvel crossover event ended with the catastrophic Thanos snap, which wiped out half of the universe’s population as some of the most prominent heroes were among the dead, which of course left the fans devastated.

Following that, a fan theory came to surface that Loki is still alive and he’ll also return in Avengers 4. But according to the Russos, that may not be in the cards.

During a post-Infinity War screening Q&A, the directors were asked about the fan theory that Bruce Banner is actually an in-disguise Loki. Following this, the Editor of SlashFilm Peter Sciretta tweeted live updates from the session where he confirmed the same.

“The Russo’s were asked about a fan theory that Bruce Banner is really Loki in disguise,” he tweeted, adding that “they answered. That “Loki is dead.”

This sounds like a straightforward answer, but it’s worth noting there are still six months remaining until Avengers 4 debuts. Furthermore, they did not answer any questions regarding major plot twists in the film, which leaves the door open for interpretation.

The silver lining to this tragic Loki confirmation is that we know for sure that the character will be returning to the Disney+ streaming service.

Avengers 4 is set to finally hit theatres on May 3, 2019.
