LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed as withdrawn a petition challenging arrest of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi, his son Saad Rizvi and TLP leader Pir Afzal Qadri.
Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi heard the habeas corpus petition filed by Syed Zafar Hussain Gillani.
During the course of proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel assailed the arrest of TLP leaders and sought directions for their recovery.
He said the police had arrested the TLP leaders “unlawfully and without any notification”.
However, a law officer, on behalf of the government, produced a notification issued by authorities concerned under Section 16 of maintenance of public order ordinance for the detention of TLP leaders.
To this, the petitioner’s counsel sought permission to withdraw the petition.
