Shelter home in Rawalpindi to be inaugurated on Dec 3

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Arif Abbasi on Wednesday announced that a shelter home to provide homeless people with accommodation would be inaugurated here on Monday as all arrangements for the facility have been finalised.

Talking to APP, he said that the project is being launched to facilitate the poor. He said that initially arrangements for 150 persons have been made in the basement of Raja Bazar Parking Plaza; however, the facility would be enhanced gradually for 600 to 700 homeless citizens.

“The project is aimed at restoring the self-respect of those who spend the night under the open sky,” he said while adding that it is also aimed at broadening the circle of the state’s social responsibility.

To a question, the chairman informed that expenditures of the shelter home would be paid through donations by philanthropists.

He further informed that he had met with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday and the PM appreciated efforts being made by RDA to remove encroachments. “The PM has directed me to take action in accordance with the law against encroachers,” he added.

“The PM has also directed the RDA to be run on modern lines for which a public complaint cell would be activated immediately,” he said.

Arif Abbasi said that all out efforts would be made to provide relief to the citizens according to the premier’s vision.
