Nawaz wants NAB to probe offshore assets of PM’s sister

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday demanded a National Accountancy Bureau (NAB) probe into the offshore properties of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan.

“How did she [Aleema] manage to make properties worth billions in Dubai? Where did the money come from? She only paid a fine to keep the assets hidden, is this not an NRO?” the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo questioned during a candid conversation with journalists outside an accountability court in Islamabad.

Noting that Aleema is also a board member of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH), the former premier asked what was the money trail of her property.

He said the nation wanted to know who was behind Aleema’s assets and added that they [PML-N government] saved Rs160 billion in power projects, behind which were the tireless efforts of the then Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“But Shehbaz was thrown in jail instead of commending him,” he lamented.

“The Lahore-Multan Motorway project has been completed, but it is not being operationalised. Name it ‘PTI Motorway’, but at least open it,” he urged, alleging that the government was not ready to operationalise projects initiated by PML-N.

Nawaz also regretted his incarceration “despite having done so much for the country”.

“We made JF-17 fighter jet in collaboration with China. Are we being forced to face prisons as a reward?” he asked.

“Thinking about this hurts. Then you say I do not speak up,” the former premier told the reporters.

“You can neither write nor publish whatever I would say,” he said.
