Ehtisab Commission formation ‘merely a waste of time’: KP finance minister

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Minister Taimur Khan on Wednesday commended the decision to dissolve the Ehtisab Commission stating that the “formation of the commission was merely a waste of time”.

It was further reported that Provincial Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said that the commission was dissolved due to the conflicts among authority, adding that DG Hamid Khan was compelled by his commissioners to resign.

Moreover, in the last four years, a huge amount was utilised for the KP Ehtisab Commission however, the performance of the commission wasn’t up to par.

According to the provincial ministers, an anti-corruption unit will be made more diligent and strong for accountability now on.

Earlier, the KP government decided to dissolve its Ehtisab Commission and provide funds worth Rs300 million to the provincial Anti-Corruption Department.

As per the details, a provincial cabinet meeting, chaired by KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, decided to repeal the Ehtisab Commission Act 2014.

Following the decision, regular employees of the commission will either be given a golden handshake or will be put in the surplus pool, while the contract employees would be sacked, a private media outlet reported.

Provincial Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai has said the cases of the commission will also be transferred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).

“Amendments are being made in the laws of ACE to further strengthen the department,” he said
