QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Wednesday asked the federal government to submit a reply within 10 days over the issue of citizenship and disqualification of Hazara Democratic Party General Secretary and ex-MPA of Balochistan Assembly Ahmed Ali Khozad.

A two-member bench of BHC comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Ejaz Swati heard Khozad’s appeal against his disqualification on the charges of being an Afghan national.

Advocate Zahoor Ahmed appeared before the court on behalf of Kohzad while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Jan Advocate appeared before the court on behalf of the federal government.

Advocate Zahoor Ahmed argued that his client had contested election four times, but when he won the election, he was declared a non-Pakistani and subsequently disqualified. He asked the court to suspend the October 24 verdict.

Justice Ejaz Swati inquired whether the said decision would affect the notification of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The lawyer replied that they were challenging the decision of federal government instead of that of ECP.

The court ordered the federal government to submit a reply within 10 days and the hearing was adjourned.
