The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) has announced to raise pensions for elderly people by 20 per cent from Rs5,250 to Rs6,500, a local news outlet reported on Tuesday.
Earlier this year, a woman legislator of the treasury benches in the Punjab Assembly had demanded that the government fix Rs10,000 as pension and ensure the provision of best economic, social and health facilities to the aged artistes who spent their lives in the showbiz.
The demands were made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Seemabia Tahir through her resolution she submitted in Punjab Assembly Secretariat.
She had contended that the previous government had neither done anything for the artists nor introduced any policy to make their lives easier when they retire from their work.
She said these artists played their role in promoting the culture and tradition of Pakistan.
