A 16-year-old girl, who had allegedly tied the knot with her step-brother, was remanded into the custody of Risalpur police.

According to a report in the local media, the girl, who was earlier sent to Mardan Darul Aman on her request, was brought to the court of magistrate Mohammad Wali amid tight security. The court rejected her mother’s request to hand her over and sent her on physical remand instead.

The other accused in the case has already obtained bail before arrest till Nov 28.

As per details, the girl’s mother had registered an FIR [first information report] with Risalpur Police Station on October 27, stating that her step son had abducted her daughter on Oct 24, and requested the police to recover the girl. The police claimed to have recovered the girl and her step-brother who had fled to Karachi where they apparently entered into a nikkah.

The girl, in her statement before the magistrate, said that her father was forcing her to marry another man and that she ran away with her step-brother to avoid her being forcibly married.

However, she added that they returned voluntarily to home when she heard about the FIR registered against them by her mother.

The magistrate ordered that sections 419, 420, 468 and 471B be added to the FIR as the duo had allegedly prepared a fake Nikhanama.
