Karachi police announce traffic plan for 10th IDEAS 2018

KARACHI: Police in the provincial capital on Monday released a traffic plan for four-day International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2018 set to begin in Karachi on Tuesday.

The exhibition will start after a grand inauguration ceremony and will continue till November 30, 2018.

According to police, over 300 traffic policemen will be deployed around the exhibition venue. University Road will be open for traffic throughout the four-day exhibition.

However, traffic from Hassan Square to the National Stadium will be closed from 7am on November 27. The roads from Dalmia to Karsaz and New Town will remain open but the Hassan Square Flyover will be closed.

Traffic coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted towards University Road. To avoid traffic, motorists are advised to use Shara-e-Pakistan, Shara-e-Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road and Shaheed-e-Millat.

Heavy traffic will not be allowed to use the road from Nipa to Millennium Mall and Karsaz to Hassan Square. Parking around the Expo Centre is not allowed and residents of the area will only be allowed to enter by showing their ID cards.

IDEAS 2018, the 10th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar, will be attended by 262 high level delegations from 51 countries, officials of the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) said during a briefing.

China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, and US are establishing their exclusive country pavilion at the expo.

IDEAS 2018 has surpassed all previous milestones in terms of space, booking, exhibitors and delegates – domestic and foreigners, and Karachi Expo Centre has been booked to its full capacity with 522 exhibitors from 50 countries, including Pakistan, the officials informed.

Director Coordination Brigadier Waheed Mumtaz, Commodore Tariq Mahmood, Air Commodore Tahir Anwar, Brigadier Ali Ammar Haider from DEPO, Brigadier Abid Ali Askri, DIGP Traffic East Javed Ali Mahar, and Badar Expo Solutions  Chief Operating Officer Zohair Naseer were also present during the brief.

The first two days have been earmarked for delegations, trade visitors and networking activities.

The other highlights of the day include an international seminar on emerging global and regional environment and Pakistan’s perspective on the role of hybrid warfare.

Renowned national and international subject matter experts will present their scholarly papers on the topic.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat NI will be the keynote speaker.

Another significance of IDEAS 2018 is that exclusive land, maritime and aviation conferences are being organised by Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force respectively.

The fourth day of the exhibition, will be exclusively reserved for the general public.
