Dam fund makes CJP nostalgic

MANCHESTER: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has said that all Pakistanis are contributing to dam fund exuberantly as he compared their enthusiasm to the one prevalent during the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war.

In a statement on late Saturday night, the chief justice said that all Pakistanis were very exuberant and contributing with passion. “From 4-year-old to 84-year-old, everyone is contributing to the fund and this is no ordinary situation, it has rather become a campaign,” he said, adding that the entire nation is involved and he has never seen such passion except maybe during 1965 war.

Answering a question regarding his announcement of starting a family planning awareness campaign in light of the “population blast” happening in the country, the CJP said that the court has formed a task force under the supervision of Health Secretary Captain (r) Zahid Saeed, comprising experts from all over the country.

The CJP said the top court in this regard will hold a conference at the Supreme Court on December 12-13 which will be attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan and himself.

Overpopulation will eventually shrink resources and the disparity will increase, he said, adding these were fundamental issues of the country. The CJP is currently visiting the United Kingdom to raise funds for the construction of Mohmand and Diamer-Bhasha dams.
