KARACHI: Police and infuriated protestors of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) clashed in Numaish Chorangi on Saturday following the arrest of the movement’s founder Khadim Hussain Rizvi.

A heavy contingent of rangers arrived at the scene after the situation got out of control as the protestors and police exchanged fire, leaving three injured. Dozens of protestors were arrested after which traffic in the area resumed.

In a new crackdown against TLP after Rizvi’s arrest on Friday night, police raided houses of the movement’s leaders and activists in various parts of the country which prompted small-scale protests.

“Police used tear gas and shelling, injuring 3 protestors. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital,’’ witnesses said.

The injured were identified as 17-year-old Waseem, 40-year-old Shafiq and Sheeraz, 35.
