RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Saturday that Special Service Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army is the best special force of the world which it has proved through professional performance and great sacrifices with their sweat and blood.
He said this while visiting SSG Headquarters in connection with the installation ceremony of their colonel commandant in Tarbela, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.
Major General Abid Rafiq was installed as the first colonel commandant of the SSG.
Speaking to the guests including the serving and retired officers and men of SSG, General Qamar hailed their unmatched contributions, especially during counter-terrorism operations.
Upon arrival, the army chief laid a floral wreath at the martyrs’ monument.
In 2015, the SSG was listed as the best special forces group, ahead of units such as the US Navy SEALs and the British Special Air Service group by Business Insider, Australia. It ranked Pakistani commandos as the best of the nine top elite forces from around the world.
The SSG have been deployed in a number of operations in Pakistan from prison takeovers, to fighting terrorists in North Waziristan.
